From the 2nd to the 6th of October, the 16th International Symposium on Waste Management and Landfill took place in Santa Margherita de Pula, Sardinia, Italy.
The Symposium, organized by IWWG (International Waste Working Group) with the support of several universities, had a total of 680 attendees and more than 550 scientific articles were presented (selected among the 864 articles received by the organization).
On 2 October, Gonzalo Blanca from ESCI-UPF presented the results of the characterizations of intercommunity flights with an attendance of more than 50 people. While on October 5, Pere Fullana, also from ESCI-UPF, had the opportunity to present the outlines of the ZCW Project to more than 70 people.
Both presentations aroused the interest of the attendees, highlighting the fact that for the first time the management of catering waste is being addressed from a global perspective, including the different agents involved.
On the other hand, the Symposium was a great opportunity to meet other projects such as the one presented by Gerold Hafner, who aims to reduce food waste in bakeries, adapting production to a more realistic forecast consumption.
